Cold wave conditions have gripped several parts of India, with temperatures dropping significantly in regions such as Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, and Delhi. On Monday, many areas in Telangana, including Hyderabad, saw temperatures plunge into the single digits, triggering cold wave conditions that affected the daily life of residents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather forecasts indicating that the ongoing heatwave conditions will persist in several northern states, while heavy rainfall is expected in certain regions.

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Chamba region of Himachal Pradesh, causing tremors felt across North India including Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana. The National Center for Seismology confirmed the earthquake's occurrence, stating that it originated at a depth of 10 km with coordinates Lat: 33.09 & Long: 76.59. The tremors, lasting only a few seconds, did not result in any loss of life or property damage.

Weather experts have forecasted the likelihood of rain and snow making a comeback in the Western Himalayan region and nearby plains early next week, with overcast conditions and spells of precipitation anticipated in central India and parts of the northwest plains, including the national capital, Delhi. This forecast comes in light of a new western disturbance (WD) system expected to affect these regions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi-NCR and several parts of North India woke up to an intensified cold wave accompanied by dense fog, significantly impacting daily life. The national capital, already battling freezing temperatures, witnessed a further plunge in mercury levels as the grip of the cold wave tightened. The dense fog made commuting arduous for residents, blanketing the region and reducing visibility.

As winter tightens its grip over North India, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of severe cold day conditions enveloping Delhi and various other northern regions on Friday. An anticipated plummet in temperatures has set the stage for chilly spells in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and select areas of Uttar Pradesh, intensifying the wintry cold that has already settled in.
