Organizers must pay ₹880 per sq. metre and apply via the Smart Kashi app at least 15 days in advance.

Varanasi: Organizing social, cultural, or religious events on the iconic Ganga ghats in Varanasi will now require event organizers to pay a fee to the municipal corporation, an official confirmed on Tuesday.

Sandeep Srivastava, the public relations officer of the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC), stated that previously, event organizers only needed permission from the civic body, without any associated charges. However, under the new system, permission will still be required, but applicants will need to submit their requests digitally through the Smart Kashi app.

“The municipal corporation will now charge ₹880 per square meter for organizing events on the ghats. Organizers will have to apply online at least 15 days in advance,” Srivastava said.

Applications must include photographs of the proposed event location along with detailed information about the event. These details will be reviewed by the respective zonal officer before approval.

The VMC official added that this new system is expected to be implemented within the next few days.
