A series of forest fires that broke out last month in Mizoram’s Phawngpui National Park have scorched nearly one-ninth of the park's total area, officials from the state forest department confirmed on Thursday. The fires reportedly originated on March 11 at a jhum (slash-and-burn) cultivation site in Archhuang village and quickly spread into the ecologically sensitive forest zones of the national park.

To ensure the safe movement of wildlife and reduce human-animal conflicts, four underpasses will be constructed along a new four-lane road from Rishikesh to Jheelwala in Ranipokhari, officials announced. The project, approved by the central government, aims to facilitate seamless wildlife passage without human interference.

In the midst of devastating floods in Assam, Kaziranga National Park has reported the death of 137 wild animals, including six rhinos. The park authorities have managed to rescue 99 animals, among them two rhino calves and two elephant calves.

Efforts to locate a wild leopard, spotted near a farmhouse in New Delhi's Neb Sarai region, have persisted into the third day, with authorities remaining vigilant despite the animal not being sighted since Saturday evening.
