Nagpur police have registered an FIR against office-bearers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a protest demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The violence erupted in central Nagpur’s Chitnis Park in Mahal area on Monday evening, leading to heightened security measures across the city.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has taken legal action by filing a petition before the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court, alleging that a lioness transferred to Bengal Safari Park from Tripura was named "Sita." The petition, lodged by VHP's north Bengal unit, calls for a change in the name, citing concerns over religious sentiments.
