Uttarakhand is set to make history as the first state in independent India to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), with the law coming into effect on January 27, 2025. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s secretary, Shailesh Bagoli, confirmed that the official rollout will coincide with the launch of a dedicated UCC portal at 12:30 pm on that day at the state's Secretariat.

In a recent statement, Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh criticized the timing of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) push for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), suggesting that it is part of a calculated political strategy. Singh, who had previously expressed his support for a UCC, accused the BJP of raising controversial issues ahead of elections to divert attention from pressing matters such as unemployment and a declining growth rate.
