Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a week-long program called ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ for the country’s aspirational blocks at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. During the launch, he highlighted the transformative impact of the aspirational districts program on over 25 crore people across 112 Indian districts and stressed that its success would serve as the foundation for the aspirational blocks program.
The ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ initiative aligns closely with the nationwide Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), introduced by Modi in January of the same year. This program aims to enhance governance at the block level to improve citizens’ quality of life.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi underscored the significance of optimal resource utilization, convergence of efforts, and public participation in driving development at the grassroots level. He noted that with effective resource management and cooperation, meaningful progress can be achieved even without additional funds.
The ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ program is being implemented in 500 aspirational blocks spanning 329 districts across India. It seeks to craft robust strategies for block development and facilitate the successful execution of the ABP. This initiative builds upon the outcomes of ‘chintan shivirs’ conducted at the village and block levels throughout the nation, representing a culmination of thoughtful deliberations in all 500 aspirational blocks.
Each day of ‘Sankalp Saptaah,’ from October 3 to October 9, will focus on a specific development theme that all aspirational blocks will work on. The themes for the first six days include ‘Sampoorna Swasthya’ (Holistic Health), ‘Suposhit Pariwaar’ (Nutrition), ‘Swachhta’ (Cleanliness), ‘Krishi’ (Agriculture), ‘Shiksha’ (Education), and ‘Samridhi Diwas’ (Prosperity Day).
The program will conclude on October 9 with ‘Sankalp Saptaah – Samavesh Samaroh,’ a celebration of the accomplishments and efforts made during the week-long initiative.
The inaugural event at Bharat Mandapam is expected to witness the participation of around 3,000 panchayat and block-level representatives and functionaries, along with approximately two lakh individuals, including farmers and people from various walks of life, participating virtually.
‘Sankalp Saptaah’ represents a dedicated effort to enhance governance, optimize resource utilization, and promote public participation for holistic development in India’s aspirational blocks, ultimately aiming to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
