Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day State visit to Bhutan with expressions of gratitude towards Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay for their warm hospitality and special gestures during his departure from the Himalayan country.
As a special gesture, both King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay came to see off PM Modi at the airport, marking a symbol of the close ties between India and Bhutan.
PM Modi took to social media to convey his appreciation, stating, “I am honoured by the special gesture by His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, of coming to the airport as I leave for Delhi.”
During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital alongside Bhutanese Prime Minister Tobgay, further showcasing the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
The visit also witnessed significant developments, including PM Modi announcing a substantial assistance package of 10,000 crores for Bhutan’s 13th five-year plan, underscoring India’s commitment to supporting Bhutan’s development initiatives.
Furthermore, PM Modi was conferred with the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo,’ Bhutan’s highest civilian honour, highlighting the deep-rooted friendship and mutual respect between the two countries.
PM Modi and PM Tobgay also discussed bilateral energy cooperation, particularly focusing on hydro-electric projects that have the potential to enhance energy security, strengthen economies, and contribute to industrial and financial capacities.
