Owner of Bar and Others Remanded in Police Custody Until May 24 Following Pune Porsche Crash

Three individuals, including a bar owner and two managers of different restaurants, have been remanded to police custody until May 24 in connection with a tragic car accident in Pune. The incident, which allegedly involved a 17-year-old boy driving a Porsche while under the influence of alcohol, resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

The accused individuals, identified as Naman Pralhad Bhutda, owner of Cosie restaurant, Sachin Katkar, manager of Cosie restaurant, and Sandip Sangle, manager of Blak Club hotel, appeared before the court for their hearing. The prosecution argued for a seven-day custody, citing that the establishments owned or managed by the accused served liquor to the underage boy and his friends without verifying their age.

During the hearing, Additional Sessions Court Judge S P Ponkshe considered the arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense. Consequently, the court granted police custody of the three accused individuals until May 24.

According to the police, the fatal accident occurred in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune during the early hours of Sunday. The Porsche car, allegedly driven by the intoxicated juvenile, collided with two motorbike riders, resulting in the deaths of Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh.

Investigations revealed that on the night of the incident, the juvenile and his friends visited the aforementioned establishments between 9:30 pm and 1 am, where they purportedly consumed alcohol. Subsequently, the police detained the boy’s father, who is a real estate developer, and arrested three executives from the two establishments for serving alcohol to a minor.

The case underscores the importance of enforcing age verification protocols in establishments serving alcohol and the potential consequences of underage drinking, particularly in relation to road safety and public welfare.
