Tragic Wall Collapse Claims Lives of 9 Children in Madhya Pradesh, Second Incident in Two Days

In a heartbreaking turn of events, nine children lost their lives and several others were injured in a wall collapse incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on Wednesday morning. The tragedy occurred near the Hardaul Baba temple in Shahpur, where the children were engaged in making shivlings as part of a religious ceremony.

According to local administration officials, the wall of a dilapidated house adjacent to the temple gave way, crushing the children beneath the debris. The house, over 50 years old, had been weakened by recent heavy rains. Emergency services, assisted by local residents, worked diligently to rescue the injured and remove the rubble. The survivors have been hospitalized, and their conditions are being monitored.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed profound sorrow over the incident, offering his condolences to the grieving families. “I am deeply pained by this tragedy. We hope for the speedy recovery of the injured, and the government will provide ₹4 lakh in compensation to each affected family,” he stated.

President Droupadi Murmu also voiced her distress, calling the incident “heart-rending” and extending her sympathies to the families. “May God give the bereaved families the strength to endure this pain. I hope for the swift recovery of the injured children,” she wrote in a message on X.

This devastating event follows another wall collapse in the Rewa district just a day prior, which resulted in the deaths of four young children. They were reportedly returning from school when the wall fell. The owners of the affected house have been detained by authorities.

The recent series of wall collapses is attributed to the severe rainfall that has battered the region. Madhya Pradesh has experienced significant rain-related damage this year, with 200 reported deaths and extensive destruction to homes. Approximately 206 houses have been completely destroyed, and 2,403 have sustained partial damage.
