The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two individuals in connection with the Hizb-ut-Tahrir case, following extensive searches at 10 locations across five districts in Tamil Nadu. The arrested men, Abdul Rehman (alias Abdul Rahman) and Mujibur Rehman (alias Mujibur Rahman Altham Sahib), are from Thanjavur district.
Hizb-ut-Tahrir is an international pan-Islamist and fundamentalist organization dedicated to re-establishing the Islamic caliphate and enforcing the constitution devised by its founder, Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.
According to NIA investigations, the two suspects were involved in conducting secret classes aimed at radicalizing young individuals with extremist ideologies. These classes depicted the Indian Constitution, laws, and judiciary as anti-Islamic and promoted the belief that India was Darul Kufr (Land of Non-believers). The suspects allegedly encouraged their trainees to transform India into Darul Islam through violent jihad.
During the searches, the NIA seized mobile phones, laptops, SIM cards, memory cards, and incriminating documents, including books and printouts containing the ideology of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khilafa, the Islamic State, and the proposed Khilafa government and its funding structures.
