Darshan, Kannada actor, Renukaswamy murder case, prison, TV in jail,

Kannada superstar Darshan, who is currently in jail facing charges of kidnapping and murdering his fan, Renukaswamy, has been provided with a television in his cell by prison authorities on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Darshan, along with his partner Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, is accused of the brutal crime.

According to sources, the 32-inch TV was installed early Saturday after Darshan requested one last week, citing his desire to stay updated on the news related to his case, especially the submission of the chargesheet. Prison guidelines allow for the provision of a television, though there had been a delay due to repairs.

Previously, the authorities had also approved Darshan’s request for a surgical chair, as he was unable to use the Indian-style toilet in his cell. He was also granted permission to make phone calls. Prison records indicate that ₹35,000 had been deposited into Darshan’s account, and he spent ₹735 on tea and coffee from the jail canteen.

The charges against Darshan reveal disturbing details of his alleged cruelty towards Renukaswamy. The chargesheet claims that Darshan and his associates forced the victim to eat non-vegetarian food, fully aware that he was a vegetarian. When Renukaswamy spat out the food, Darshan reportedly kicked him repeatedly, causing critical injuries.

After the attack, Darshan allegedly traveled to Mysuru wearing the same shoes stained with Renukaswamy’s blood. However, when police arrested him the next morning, he was wearing a different pair. The bloodstained shoes and other belongings were sent to his wife Vijayalaxmi’s residence in Bengaluru, where police later seized them. These bloodstains are considered crucial evidence linking Darshan to the murder.
