In a heartbreaking turn of events, Jishan Ashpak Pinjari, one of the four Indian students who drowned in the Volkhov river in Russia, was reportedly on a video call with his parents just moments before the tragic incident unfolded. The four students, including Harshal Anantrao Desale, Jia Firoj Pinjari, and Malik Gulamgous Mohammad Yakub, all students of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University, were taking a walk along the Volkhov river when they entered the waters and faced a fatal accident.
According to a family member, Jishan Ashpak Pinjari was in communication with his family via video call as they walked along the riverbank. Tragically, a strong wave swept them away while his father and other family members pleaded for them to come out of the water.
Among the group, Nisha Bhupesh Sonawane survived and is currently receiving medical care in Russia. Efforts are underway to repatriate the bodies of the deceased students to India, with arrangements being made by local authorities.
Jishan and Jia were siblings from Amalner in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, while Harshal Desale hailed from Bhadgaon, also in Jalgaon district. The tragic incident occurred during their study-free time near the city’s beach along the Volkhov river.
The administration of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University has expressed condolences over the tragedy and is closely monitoring Nisha Bhupesh Sonawane’s condition, providing all necessary support.
