Water Leakage at Hyderabad Airport Amid Torrential Rains Causes Disruption

Heavy rains in Hyderabad have led to significant disruptions, including a notable incident at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) where water leakage was reported. A viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter) showed water cascading from the ceiling of the airport terminal, causing inconvenience to passengers and staff.

The video, shared by user Serish, depicted water dripping from the ceiling onto the terminal floor, prompting the airport authorities to place barricades to prevent pedestrians from walking on the wet surface. The footage quickly gained traction, amassing around 21,000 views and eliciting numerous reactions from the public.

In response to the viral video, the official RGIA X handle acknowledged the issue, stating, “Thank you for highlighting the issue. The heavy rainfall led to an unusual water leakage in the terminal. Our technical team responded promptly and is working on resolving the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and assure you that our ground team is closely monitoring the situation.”

The torrential rains have caused widespread problems across Hyderabad, with residents facing water-blocked roads, heavy traffic, and fallen trees. The city’s officials have advised people to remain indoors to avoid the adverse effects of the severe weather.

The video sparked a range of comments, with some users expressing concerns about the construction quality of the airport’s new extension. One user noted, “It is the new extension of the terminal, which opened a year ago. Sadly, the new infra projects aren’t robust yet.” Another user, Gopinath, criticized the airport’s maintenance standards, suggesting that the new infrastructure may not be up to safety and quality standards, referencing a similar incident at Delhi’s terminal.

The incident highlights the broader impact of the heavy rains on infrastructure and daily life in Hyderabad, as the city grapples with the ongoing severe weather conditions.
