Former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar and his son had a lucky escape after being involved in a car accident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Praveen Kumar’s Land Rover Defender collided with a speeding canter near the commissioner’s residence in the Pandav Nagar area.
Although the collision caused severe damage to Praveen Kumar’s car, both he and his son emerged from the accident without any injuries. The Civil Line Police promptly arrived at the scene and apprehended the canter driver responsible for the incident.
Speaking to PTI, Praveen Kumar expressed his relief, saying, “It could have been a lot worse. By the grace of God, we are okay and I am talking to you. I had gone to drop my nephew, but a massive truck hit my car from behind around 9:30 pm. Thank God it was a big car, else there could have been injuries.”
He further added, “I initially thought just the bumper would be broken, but the car is badly damaged.”
Praveen Kumar is a former cricketer who represented India in all three formats of the game. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he played 68 matches, taking 78 wickets with an economy rate of 5.13 and a strike rate of 36.03. His best figures in ODIs are 4/31.
This incident marks the second instance in less than a year where an Indian cricket star has survived a major accident. Last year, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant had a miraculous escape after his luxury car crashed into a road divider and caught fire when he momentarily fell asleep while driving on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all individuals, including celebrities and sports personalities, to remain cautious while on the road. Fortunately, in this case, Praveen Kumar and his son were able to walk away from the accident unscathed, but it serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers on the roads.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, and it stands as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
