A fire erupted in a multi-storey commercial building in Bengaluru’s upscale Koramangala locality, resulting in a terrifying explosion and a dramatic rescue effort. Visuals captured the intense blaze on the building’s top floor, believed to have been triggered by the explosion of cooking gas cylinders.
Dramatic footage showcased a man precariously perched on the corner of the building’s terrace as the fire relentlessly spread. The individual surveyed the fire’s vicinity, glancing both to the right and the ground below before making the harrowing decision to jump.
As a result of this daring escape attempt, the man and another person sustained severe injuries and were promptly admitted to a private hospital, according to news agency PTI.
The fire reportedly originated in a café situated on the top floor, with several cooking gas cylinders stored on the premises. Residents in the vicinity reported hearing a series of explosions, likely due to the gas cylinders igniting.
“We had dispatched eight fire trucks to the scene, and our senior officers are present. The fire has been successfully extinguished. Two individuals have suffered significant injuries,” stated a fire department officer to PTI.
Thankfully, at the time of the incident, there were no customers inside the café. Local authorities have been investigating the exact cause of the fire, and further details will be revealed as the investigation progresses. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures when handling gas cylinders and the quick response of emergency services in mitigating such crises.
