Prajwal Revanna's Bail Plea in Rape Case Rejected by Bengaluru Court

In a significant development, the Special People Representative Court in Bengaluru has denied bail to Prajwal Revanna, a suspended leader of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) who is facing serious allegations of sexual assault. This decision comes amid a heated legal battle following explicit video evidence that surfaced shortly before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Prajwal Revanna, aged 33, stands accused in a case registered at the Holenarasipura police station in Karnataka, alongside his father, HD Revanna. The allegations against him gained national attention when pen drives containing explicit videos purportedly involving Revanna were circulated in Hassan, just ahead of the April 26 polls. Following these revelations, the JD-S promptly suspended him from the party.

The situation escalated when Revanna, a former Member of Parliament, departed for Germany on April 27, the day after polling in Hassan. Subsequently, a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ was issued by Interpol at the behest of the Karnataka police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to locate and apprehend him.

Revanna’s return from Germany led to his arrest on May 31. He has since been held in custody while the investigation proceeds. The denial of bail by the Special People Representative Court underscores the gravity of the charges against him and reflects the court’s stance on ensuring due process amid the ongoing probe.

Adding to the controversy, Suraj Revanna, Prajwal Revanna’s brother and also a prominent figure, has faced separate allegations of sexual misconduct. He too has been arrested on charges related to assaults on multiple women, further complicating matters for the influential JD-S family. Both Prajwal and Suraj Revanna are grandchildren of HD Deve Gowda, a prominent leader in Karnataka politics and a former Prime Minister of India.

The rejection of Prajwal Revanna’s bail plea marks a pivotal moment in a case that has gripped Karnataka’s political landscape. As legal proceedings continue, the public and political observers alike await further developments that could potentially reshape the state’s political dynamics.
