Passengers aboard the Vande Bharat Express were shocked to discover a dead cockroach in their meal, leading to swift action from the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC). The incident came to light when a user on social media platform X shared a picture of the unpleasant discovery, highlighting the need for stringent measures against such lapses.

According to the post by Vidit Varshney, his uncle and aunt encountered the disturbing sight while travelling from Bhopal to Agra on June 18. Varshney’s post not only expressed concern over the incident but also called for authorities to take strict action against the vendor responsible for the meal service.

In response to Varshney’s post, RailwaySeva, the official support handle on X for train passengers, acknowledged the issue and requested further details from Varshney. They expressed regret over the experience faced by Varshney’s relatives.

Two days after the incident was reported on X, IRCTC officially responded, apologizing for the inconvenience caused to the passengers. They assured that the matter was taken seriously, and a suitable penalty was imposed on the service provider responsible for the subpar meal quality. Additionally, IRCTC mentioned that they have intensified production and logistics monitoring to prevent such incidents in the future.

The post on X sparked reactions from other users, with many expressing concerns about the overall quality and hygiene standards of railway food services. Some users shared their preference for bringing homemade meals during train journeys to avoid such issues.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining strict quality control and hygiene standards in food services, especially in public transportation settings like trains. IRCTC’s prompt response and action demonstrate their commitment to ensuring a satisfactory and hygienic experience for passengers aboard the Vande Bharat Express and other trains under their services.
