On Sunday afternoon, residents of Delhi and its neighboring areas experienced a sudden jolt as a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Faridabad in Haryana. The National Centre for Seismology reported that the earthquake occurred at approximately 4:08 pm. The quake’s epicenter was identified as being nine kilometers east of Faridabad and about 30 kilometers southeast of Delhi.
Following the earthquake, Delhi Police issued safety recommendations to the public. They advised people not to use elevators and to stay away from buildings, trees, walls, and pillars. In the event of an emergency, individuals were encouraged to dial 112 for assistance.
This seismic event follows a series of recent earthquakes that shook parts of northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region. Notably, these tremors were triggered by a sequence of earthquakes, with the most powerful registering at a magnitude of 6.2, originating from Nepal. These recurring seismic activities have raised concerns about the region’s vulnerability to earthquakes and the need for preparedness.
Experts emphasize the importance of adhering to building codes and construction standards to create structures that can withstand the impact of significant earthquakes. Strict compliance with these guidelines by individuals and institutions can reduce the risk and damage caused by seismic events. Given the history of earthquakes in the region, residents are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during such natural disasters.
