
In a heartbreaking incident, four people—including renowned wildlife activist Radheshyam Pemani—lost their lives in a road accident in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on Friday night. The group was reportedly en route to investigate a tip-off about illegal deer hunting by poachers when their vehicle collided with a truck near the Lathi Police Station area.
According to police reports, the victims were traveling in a camper vehicle which suffered a severe collision with the truck, causing the vehicle to be crushed and trapping all occupants inside. Rescue teams used a crane to extract the four victims, who were later identified as wildlife activist Radheshyam Pemani, forest guard Surendra Chaudhary, and two others named Shyam Vishnoi and Kanvraj Singh.
Radheshyam Pemani was widely respected for his tireless efforts in protecting the endangered Great Indian Bustard and other wildlife. His sudden demise has deeply shocked the conservation community and the state at large.
Political leaders in Rajasthan expressed their grief and paid tribute to the deceased. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma described the accident as “extremely painful” and commended the dedication of Pemani and his colleagues to environmental and wildlife conservation.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot shared a photo of Pemani on social media, mourning his loss and stating, “His dedication to nature and wildlife will always be remembered.” Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Govind Singh Dotasra also expressed condolences and acknowledged Pemani’s significant contributions to wildlife protection.
The accident has raised concerns about the safety of officials and activists who work on the frontline of wildlife conservation in remote areas. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
