A recent leopard attack in Pune has intensified fears among local residents, as CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment a leopard snatched a pet dog late Saturday night. The incident, which occurred in the Warulwadi area near Narayangaon, has drawn urgent calls for action from the community and authorities.
According to reports, the attack took place around 11 pm. The CCTV footage reveals the leopard emerging from a dark alley, seizing a pet dog in its jaws, and swiftly making its escape. Another local dog, seen in the footage, attempted to chase the predator but was unsuccessful. The pet dog belonged to a resident of the area.
The chilling video has sparked significant alarm among villagers, who are already on edge due to frequent leopard sightings in the region. The attack has prompted calls for immediate intervention by the forest department to capture the elusive predator and ensure the safety of the community.
This incident follows a recent sighting of a leopard on the campus of the Rajarambapu Institute of Technology on the outskirts of Pune. The sighting led to a search operation involving forest and fire brigade officials, as well as wildlife experts. Junnar, where this latest attack occurred, was recently identified as a “potential leopard disaster-prone area” by wildlife authorities.
In response to the growing concern, the state forest department has requested approval from the additional director general of wildlife in the Union forests ministry to proceed with the sterilisation of 47 leopards. This measure aims to manage the leopard population and mitigate future risks.
