A 15-year-old student who was stabbed by a fellow student outside his school in Udaipur has died after a four-day battle for life. The tragic incident, which sparked communal violence in the city, occurred on Friday, and the victim, identified as Devraj, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
In a poignant moment before his death, Devraj’s sister tied a rakhi on his wrist in the hospital, marking Raksha Bandhan, a festival traditionally celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters. This moment was described by Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal as a deeply emotional and heartbreaking gesture.
Following the stabbing, communal tensions erupted in Udaipur, with Hindu outfits staging protests that led to the burning of vehicles and vandalism at a local shop. The situation necessitated heavy police deployment, and additional security measures were put in place across the city.
Inspector General of Police (Udaipur) Ajaypal Lamba confirmed that Devraj’s body was moved to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. He also stated that the body would be handed over to the family once the procedure is complete.
In response to the violence, mobile internet services have been suspended, and prohibitory orders banning public gatherings have been enforced. All government and private schools in the area have been closed until further notice to maintain peace and order.
The accused student, along with his father, was detained and arrested following the attack. The police and authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further unrest.
