Two HDFC Bank Employees Drown After SUV Submerges in Flooded Underpass in Faridabad

In a tragic incident on Friday, two employees of HDFC Bank lost their lives after their SUV was engulfed by floodwaters in the old Faridabad Railway underpass. The victims, 48-year-old Punyashray Sharma and 26-year-old Viraj Dwivedi, were returning to Greater Faridabad from Gurugram when the accident occurred.

The underpass had been heavily inundated due to recent heavy rainfall, and vehicles were warned against entering the area. Despite these warnings, Sharma and Dwivedi drove their SUV into the flooded underpass around 11:50 pm. The vehicle quickly became trapped in the rising waters, and as the situation worsened, water began to seep into the SUV.

Efforts by passers-by to rescue the two men were unsuccessful. They managed to get them out of the vehicle, but Viraj Dwivedi was pronounced dead at the scene. Punyashray Sharma, who was initially pulled from the SUV, later succumbed to the floodwaters at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital.

Police officials reported that the search for Sharma continued into the early hours of Saturday. His body was found at approximately 4 am following an extensive search operation. Inspector Samer Singh, SHO of the NIT Faridabad police station, confirmed that the bodies will be handed over to the families after post-mortem examinations.

“Their families have been informed. We will complete the formalities and ensure the bodies are returned to their next of kin,” Inspector Singh said.
