Turmoil in Bengal: Union Minister Allegedly Attempts to Enter Matua Matriarch’s House, TMC Reacts

Latest newsTurmoil in Bengal: Union Minister Allegedly Attempts to Enter Matua Matriarch's House, TMC Reacts

A political confrontation erupted in West Bengal’s Thakurnagar area involving Union Minister Shantanu Thakur and TMC leader Mamata Bala Thakur over control of a house once occupied by Matua matriarch Binapani Devi. Accusations of illegal occupation and forceful entry have sparked controversy, highlighting tensions within the Matua community.

The strife unfolded as supporters of Union Minister Shantanu Thakur clashed with those of TMC leader Mamata Bala Thakur regarding the ownership of a property where Binapani Devi, affectionately known as ‘Boroma’, resided until her passing five years ago. The incident occurred in Thakurnagar, a region with a significant Matua population, amplifying the political ramifications.

TMC accused Shantanu Thakur and his supporters of forcibly attempting to take control of Boroma’s house, where Mamata Bala Thakur currently resides. In response, Shantanu Thakur claimed legal rights to half of the property, accusing Mamata Bala Thakur of unlawful occupation and converting part of it into a TMC office.

Shantanu Thakur, the grandson of Binapani Devi, and Mamata Bala Thakur, her daughter-in-law, have been embroiled in a legal and familial dispute over the property. Their political affiliations add a layer of complexity to the situation, given Shantanu Thakur’s role as a BJP MP and Mamata Bala Thakur’s influence within the Matua community and TMC.

The TMC swiftly reacted, denouncing what they termed as BJP’s “hooliganism” and sharing visuals of the incident on social media. Mamata Bala Thakur lodged a police complaint, alleging forced entry and disruption of her residence by Shantanu Thakur and his associates.

The confrontation reflects broader tensions within Bengal’s political landscape, especially concerning the Matua community, which has been a significant electoral demographic. The incident underscores the intertwined dynamics of familial disputes, political rivalries, and legal claims in the region.

As the dispute unfolds, it raises questions about property rights, political motivations, and the delicate balance between legal recourse and public perception, highlighting the complexities of power struggles within Bengal’s political milieu.
