The Indian government has announced the appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the new Finance Secretary. This significant change comes as part of a broader administrative reshuffle within the Indian government.
Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a 1987-batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, will take over the role of Finance Secretary, succeeding TV Somanathan. Somanathan has been appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary of India, stepping into the position previously held by Rajiv Gauba, who retired in August.
Before his new appointment, Mr. Pandey served as the Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), a role he has held since October 2019. During his tenure at DIPAM, Pandey was responsible for overseeing the management of public assets and investments, playing a key role in various financial reforms.
The appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey to the position of Finance Secretary marks a notable shift in the Indian administrative landscape. His extensive experience and previous roles in financial management are expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Finance Ministry.
The government’s decision to appoint Pandey is part of a series of administrative changes aimed at bolstering efficiency and continuity within key government departments.
