Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Parvesh Verma secured a significant victory over Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency during the Delhi Assembly elections. Following his win, his daughters, Trisha and Sanidhi Verma, expressed their gratitude to voters and took a dig at AAP’s governance.

Verma’s Family Expresses Gratitude

Speaking to ANI after the results, Sanidhi Verma thanked the people of New Delhi, saying, “We are all very happy. I thank the people for giving us the opportunity to serve them for the next five years.” She emphasized that their family had always accepted the roles entrusted to her father by the party with dedication.

Her sister, Trisha Verma, also conveyed her appreciation for the voters and criticized the AAP government. “The people of Delhi will never repeat the mistake of giving a second chance to someone who governs by telling lies. We always knew there would be a clear-cut victory—we were just waiting for the right time,” she remarked.

BJP’s Strong Performance in Delhi

The Delhi Assembly election results marked a significant political shift, with the BJP leading in 45 out of 70 seats. The saffron party, which last held power in the national capital in 1998, has made a strong comeback after AAP’s decade-long dominance in Delhi’s politics.

Delhi, home to 1.55 crore eligible voters, recorded a turnout of 60.54% in the elections held on February 5.

Who is Parvesh Verma?

Born on November 7, 1977, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma hails from a politically influential family. He studied at Delhi Public School, RK Puram, pursued higher education at Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and later completed an MBA from the Fore School of Management.

He is the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, a senior BJP leader, and his uncle, Azad Singh, served as the mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation and contested the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections.

Verma made his political debut in 2013, defeating Congress leader Yoganand Shastri in Mehrauli. He later shifted to national politics, winning the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from West Delhi and retaining the seat in 2019 with a record-breaking margin of 5,78,486 votes against Congress candidate Mahabal Mishra.

A former member of the Standing Committee on Urban Development and the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of MPs, Verma opted out of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and returned to state politics, where he pulled off a major win against Kejriwal.
