Puja Khedkar, a trainee Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer ranked 841 in the UPSC Civil Service Exams, faces scrutiny over alleged misrepresentations regarding disabilities and misuse of privileges. Her actions have sparked controversy and led to her reassignment after issues with using a siren on her private vehicle and unauthorized office usage came to light.
Puja Khedkar, who secured a position as Assistant Collector in Pune, allegedly misrepresented herself as visually and mentally impaired to avail concessions during the selection process. Reports indicate she refused multiple times to undergo mandatory medical tests to verify her claimed disabilities. Despite challenges to her appointment by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and subsequent rulings against her, Khedkar’s appointment was confirmed under unclear circumstances.
Apart from the disability claims, Khedkar is accused of using unauthorized government privileges, including using a siren on her private Audi sedan, displaying VIP number plates, and appropriating an Additional Collector’s office in Pune. These actions, considered inappropriate for a junior officer on probation, have drawn severe criticism.
Following the revelations, Pune Collector Suhas Divase requested Khedkar’s transfer to Washim district. She has been reassigned as a Supernumerary Assistant Collector during the remaining period of her probation. The Maharashtra government’s decision to relocate her aims to address concerns over misconduct and misuse of official privileges.
The controversy surrounding Puja Khedkar underscores issues of integrity and adherence to regulations within India’s civil services. Her case highlights the challenges of maintaining transparency and accountability in public service appointments. As investigations continue and disciplinary measures are considered, the incident raises broader questions about the selection process and governance standards in the administrative service.
