Tragic Bus Accident Claims 36 Lives in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda; Rescue Efforts Underway

In a devastating incident, 36 people lost their lives and 19 others sustained injuries when a bus carrying 55 passengers plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda. The tragic accident occurred near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar national highway, where the bus skidded off the road and fell 300 feet downhill, according to Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, providing updates on the situation, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Unfortunately, 36 persons have died and 19 are injured, out of whom 6 are in serious condition.” The injured are being swiftly shifted to government-run hospitals in Doda and Kishtwar, with plans for a helicopter service to transport those requiring immediate medical attention.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed their condolences, with President Murmu expressing deep sadness and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Prime Minister’s office issued a statement, saying, “The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest.” Prime Minister Modi announced compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured in the tragic accident.

As rescue efforts continue in the challenging terrain, authorities are working tirelessly to provide support to the affected families and ensure prompt medical care for the injured.
