Rescue workers in Kolkata faced a grim situation as the death count rose to 10 in the aftermath of a building collapse in the Garden Reach area. Among the victims was a mason from Murshidabad district, tragically declared dead upon arrival at SSKM Hospital.
The incident, which occurred in an under-construction five-storey building, also left 17 others injured, with some in critical condition. Two individuals remain missing as rescue teams, including personnel from the state disaster management department, NDRF, fire department, and Kolkata Police’s disaster management unit, continue their search efforts.
Challenges persist for rescue operations due to the densely populated and narrow lanes of the area. Despite these hurdles, dedicated teams are utilizing small tools to navigate through the rubble and debris.
The tragedy has sparked concerns about construction safety and the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse as families mourn the loss of their loved ones and pray for the safe return of the missing individuals.
