Three people lost their lives, and over 40 others were injured in two separate highway accidents that occurred on the Mahakumbh route, while devotees were traveling to Prayagraj for the religious gathering. The tragic incidents took place on Wednesday night and Thursday morning in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, respectively.
Bharatpur-Karauli Highway Accident
In the first incident, a truck collided with a car on the Bharatpur-Karauli state highway near Kurwriya village in Rajasthan, killing three devotees. The accident occurred on Wednesday night when the truck rammed into the car carrying four people. The deceased were identified as Gopal Singh (32), the driver of the car, and passengers Ram Chandra (30) and Lakhan Singh (35), all residents of Karauli and Rudawal.
Bayana Sadar police reached the site of the crash and transported the injured to a nearby hospital in Bayana. Unfortunately, three of the injured were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while three others, including the truck and car drivers, are receiving medical care. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families after a postmortem examination.
Agra-Lucknow Highway Accident
The second accident took place early Thursday morning on the Agra-Lucknow highway near the Bakewar overbridge in Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh. A bus carrying devotees from Delhi and Faridabad collided with a trailer truck, leaving around 40 people injured. The passengers, aged between 17 and 70 years, were en route to the Mahakumbh when the crash occurred.
The bus driver, Vinod Upadhyay (40) from Bulandshahr, was critically injured and had to be rescued from the wreckage with great effort. He was later referred to the district hospital after his condition worsened. The rest of the injured were taken to the Mahwa health center for treatment. Among the injured, several passengers are reported to be in stable condition, while others remain under medical observation.
The authorities have initiated investigations into both accidents, and local police are coordinating relief efforts.
These incidents highlight the dangers faced by travelers on major highways, especially during the busy Mahakumbh period, and underline the importance of road safety measures.
