One Terrorist Killed in Ongoing Encounter in J&K's Baramulla District

In a significant development in Jammu and Kashmir, one terrorist was killed on Saturday during an ongoing encounter with security forces in Baramulla district. The clash occurred in the Watergam area, where an exchange of gunfire between the terrorists and the security forces led to the death of the terrorist. Authorities have confirmed that the terrorist’s weapon was recovered from the encounter site, although his identity is yet to be verified.

The operation is still ongoing as security forces, including the army, paramilitary units, and local police, continue their efforts to neutralize remaining threats in the area. This encounter is part of a broader, intensified anti-terrorism operation that has been underway in J&K for the past three months.

The security situation in J&K has been heightened in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections. To ensure the democratic process is secure, over 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces are being deployed, augmenting the existing security presence.

In response to intelligence reports of foreign terrorists operating in the Jammu division’s hilly districts, the army has mobilized over 4,000 trained soldiers, including elite Para commandos and specialists in mountain warfare. This deployment aims to secure the mountain tops and counteract the ambush tactics used by terrorists in recent months.

Terrorists have recently carried out ambush attacks against the army, security forces, and civilians in several districts, including Kathua, Doda, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Udhampur. These attacks have been characterized by surprise assaults followed by quick retreats into forested areas.

To counter this tactic, the army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in these dense forest regions to limit the terrorists’ ability to exploit the terrain for surprise attacks. Senior security officers believe that the revised anti-terrorism strategy is proving effective, as it keeps the terrorists engaged and prevents them from carrying out stealthy assaults.
