A suburban train derailed on Friday evening at Kalyan station in Thane district, approximately 60 kilometers from Mumbai. The incident occurred around 9 PM as the Titwala-CSMT train was entering platform number 2. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries from the derailment.

According to Swapnil Nila, the Chief Public Relations Officer for Central Railway, the rear coach of the train derailed while the train was moving at a slow speed in preparation to stop. “There is no report of injury to anyone,” Nila confirmed.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson from Central Railway’s Mumbai division communicated via X (formerly Twitter) that mainline services were running behind schedule due to a technical issue stemming from the derailment. “Inconvenience is regretted,” the message stated.

Kalyan station is known to be one of the busiest junctions on the Central Railway line, serving as a major stop for both suburban and long-distance trains. The derailment caused significant disruptions in train services, affecting the schedules of numerous commuters.

This incident follows another derailment that occurred the previous Sunday, just outside the EMU Carshed at Western Railway’s Mumbai Central station. That derailment resulted in the cancellation of several suburban trains, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding rail safety and service reliability.

Railway officials are currently assessing the situation to restore normalcy and ensure passenger safety.
