Luxury Cars Allegedly Racing on Mumbai Sea Link Crash into Wagon R, Arrests Made

In a shocking incident on Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli sea link, two speeding luxury cars— a Mercedes and a BMW— crashed into an app-based cab early on Sunday morning, allegedly while racing. The accident occurred around 10:20 am, causing a traffic jam on the iconic bridge, which is the fifth-longest in the country.

According to police, the two vehicles, driven by Tariq Chaudhary and Sehbaz Khan, lost control while speeding and slammed into a Wagon R, which was transporting a family of four. The impact caused the cab to overturn, though there were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

The speed limit on the sea link is 80 kmph, but authorities suspect that the luxury cars were far exceeding this limit. Both drivers were arrested following the crash, and a case of attempted culpable homicide and rash driving has been filed against them.

Visuals from the scene showed the Mercedes with a heavily damaged bonnet and the BMW with rear-end damage. Both vehicles were reportedly registered to private firms.

The accident brings to mind a similar tragic incident that took place on the sea link last November, when three people lost their lives after a speeding Toyota Innova crashed into a Mercedes and several other vehicles in an attempt to flee.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, urging drivers to obey speed limits and exercise caution on the sea link to prevent further accidents.
