Two days after the tragic terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district, which resulted in nine fatalities and 41 injuries, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has taken significant steps to apprehend the perpetrators. On Tuesday, they released a sketch of one of the terrorists involved in the attack and announced a reward of ₹20 lakh for any information leading to his capture.
The attack occurred as the bus, transporting pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, was ambushed by terrorists near Teryath village in the Poni area. The ensuing gunfire caused the bus to plunge into a deep gorge, causing extensive loss of life and injuries among passengers from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.
The sketch of the wanted terrorist was crafted based on eyewitness accounts, and the police have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information. They have provided contact numbers for individuals to report any leads on the terrorist’s whereabouts.
The ongoing investigation involves extensive efforts by security personnel, with 11 teams deployed and a comprehensive cordon set up around the Ranso-Poni-Treyath region. The police have identified Lashkar-e-Taiba as the likely group responsible for the attack.
In response to the tragic incident, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced financial support for the victims’ families, offering ₹10 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 each for the injured.
Efforts by law enforcement, including collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), are aimed at swiftly bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety and security of citizens in the region.
