In a significant operation in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces successfully neutralized five terrorists affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The encounter, which commenced on Thursday afternoon in the Samno pocket of the DH Pora area, continued into Friday as forces engaged with the militants.
The South Kashmir DIG Rayees confirmed the identities of the slain terrorists as Sameer Ahmed Sheikh, Danish Thokar, Ubaid Patr, Hanzara Shah from Shopia, and Yasif Bhatt from Kulgam. The operation involved the recovery of AK series rifles, pistols, grenades, and other ammunition.
“These militants were involved in multiple attacks, including incidents targeting minorities and non-local laborers,” stated Rayees, highlighting the grave nature of the terrorists’ activities. The operation saw a coordinated effort from various security forces operating in the area, culminating in the successful elimination of the militants.
The encounter, a joint operation by the Army’s 34 Rashtriya Riffles, 9 Para (elite special forces unit), police, and the CRPF, marked a major anti-insurgency operation in South Kashmir. The exchange of heavy fire between the security forces and the terrorists continued throughout the night before reaching its conclusion.
Earlier, an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the Uri Sector was thwarted on November 15 in a joint operation named ‘Operation Kali.’ One of the infiltrators neutralized during this operation was identified as Bashir Ahmed Malik, significant in cross-border terrorism in the region.
This successful operation against Lashkar-e-Taiba militants stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the security forces in countering terrorism in Kashmir.
