Rescue operations are underway for the second consecutive day following a devastating landslide at Dasave Village near Lavasa City. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, caused the collapse of three private villas, burying the properties under a significant amount of debris.
The district administration has reported that the search for the two missing individuals, both caretakers of the affected villas, has been severely hampered by the difficult terrain and damaged roads. Surendra Navale, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) for Maval-Mulshi, indicated that the landslides have also damaged access roads leading to the site, further complicating rescue efforts.
A viral video of the incident shows the villas, situated in a hilly area, sliding down the slope along with loose boulders due to the intense rainfall. This footage has brought increased attention to the scale of the disaster.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with district administration and police teams, have been working diligently to locate the missing persons. According to an NDRF official, efforts were initially stalled due to the need to clear and repair access roads. “We had to make the stretch motorable to transport heavy machinery to the site. Road-related work was completed by late Friday evening, allowing us to deploy cranes, poclain machines, and other equipment,” the official stated.
A 30-member team is currently at the site, with hopes to resume effective rescue operations by Saturday or Sunday. The teams are focused on carefully sifting through the debris in hopes of locating the missing caretakers.
The ongoing search and rescue mission highlights the challenges posed by natural disasters and the critical need for effective emergency response systems. As the situation continues to evolve, authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safe recovery of the trapped individuals.
