In a serious security breach, unidentified individuals attempted to derail a goods train in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district by placing heavy cement blocks on the tracks. Fortunately, the incident was averted thanks to the vigilance of the loco pilot and prompt action by railway police.
On the night of September 8, around 10:30 PM, the driver of the Ajmer-Ahmedabad train noticed the cement blocks on the tracks. Despite the collision, the engine shattered the blocks but continued to pass through safely. The railway police were promptly informed and arrived at the scene to investigate.
Upon inspection, police discovered two cement blocks weighing approximately 70 kg each on the track. The blocks had been placed at different locations between Saradhna and Bangad stations on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, specifically on the Phulera-Ahmedabad stretch.
The FIR details that one block was found broken and displaced about a kilometer from the initial site. An ongoing investigation is underway, and authorities are actively searching for those responsible for this dangerous act.
This incident follows a similar attempt on September 7, where miscreants had tried to derail the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express in Kanpur by placing an LPG cylinder, a bottle of petrol, and matchboxes on the tracks.
Recent reports indicate a troubling pattern of deliberate attacks on railway tracks. On August 23, the Ahmedabad-Jodhpur Vande Bharat train collided with a cement block, causing significant delays. Just days later, on August 28, a chassis of a motorcycle was found on the railway track in Baran district, narrowly avoiding an accident when the driver applied emergency brakes.
The North Western Railway officials are concerned about the growing trend of such incidents and are working to enhance security measures to protect rail safety. A case has been registered in the latest incident, and the search for the culprits continues.
