A distressing incident of harassment involving a South Korean vlogger, Kelly, unfolded in the Ravet area of Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad during the Diwali festivities in November. The encounter, captured on video, went viral on social media, igniting public outcry and swift action from law enforcement.
The video showcased Kelly engaging with locals at a market, attempting to film content for her vlog. However, the situation took a distressing turn when a man aggressively approached her, encircling his hand around her neck, and proceeded to behave inappropriately. His actions were exacerbated by the arrival of a second individual, heightening Kelly’s evident discomfort despite her attempts to distance herself.
The viral footage prompted a rapid response from Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad Police, leading to the arrest of the accused. ACP Satish Mane confirmed that the arrest was facilitated by the widespread circulation of the video across various social media platforms, signaling the public’s indignation towards the incident.
The Crime Branch of Pimpri Chinchwad Police tracked down the suspect in the Ravet area, culminating in his apprehension on Tuesday. This incident follows a disturbing trend, reminiscent of a similar occurrence last year in Mumbai where two individuals were arrested for harassing another South Korean vlogger.
In the footage, Kelly is seen expressing her discomfort and desire to depart from the area, emphasizing the unwarranted physical contact by stating, “I have to run from here,” and noting, “They really like to hug.”
Authorities are actively investigating the case, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and dignity of individuals, especially those in the public eye. The swift arrest sends a strong message against such reprehensible behavior and highlights the community’s stance against harassment and assault.
Efforts to safeguard the rights and security of content creators and visitors to India are being underscored by law enforcement agencies, aiming to provide a conducive and safe environment for all.
As the case progresses, there’s a growing call for awareness and stringent actions to curb such incidents, promoting a culture of respect and safety for individuals irrespective of their nationality or profession.
