Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has raised serious allegations against the central government regarding the recently passed Telecom Bill, claiming a potential “scam worth thousands of crores” in the allocation of satellite broadband spectrum. In a post on social media (formerly Twitter), Gandhi questioned the timing and circumstances surrounding the passage of the bill, especially noting that it occurred while 143 opposition MPs were suspended from Parliament.
Gandhi’s questions targeted key aspects of the Telecom Bill, including the removal of the bidding process for the allocation of satellite internet spectrum. She pointed out that this removal hindered other companies from participating in the bidding, potentially causing losses to the national exchequer. Additionally, Gandhi accused the Modi government of violating rules and guidelines set by the Supreme Court in 2021 with the passage of this bill.
The Congress leader also brought attention to a significant donation of ₹150 crore received by the BJP from a corporate company involved in the electoral bonds controversy. She questioned the connection between this donation and the timing of the Telecom Bill’s passage, suggesting a possible correlation between political contributions and legislative actions.
Gandhi’s remarks extended beyond the Telecom Bill, expressing concerns about alleged attempts by the Modi government to influence the judiciary following the electoral bonds verdict. She criticized what she perceived as pressure tactics on the judicial system, referring to recent events and public perceptions regarding the handling of electoral bonds and related issues.
