The tragic demise of Punjab’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dalbir Singh Deol, has sent shockwaves through Jalandhar, as reports surface alleging his murder by an autorickshaw driver following a dispute over a ride to the officer’s village.
Dalbir Singh Deol, a former weightlifter and recipient of the esteemed Arjuna Award in 2000, was found dead in Jalandhar under disturbing circumstances. According to police reports cited by various sources, the altercation arose when Deol demanded transportation to his village, and the autorickshaw driver, identified as Vijay Kumar, refused, escalating the disagreement.
The disagreement took a fatal turn when the accused, reportedly a drug addict, seized the officer’s service pistol and allegedly shot him in the head. Jalandhar’s Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma confirmed the arrest of Vijay Kumar, shedding light on the circumstances leading to the violent altercation.
“The refusal to drop the officer to his village led to a scuffle, during which the driver snatched Deol’s service pistol and fatally shot him,” stated Commissioner Sharma.
Authorities apprehended the accused based on CCTV footage, adding a layer of evidence to the distressing incident. The body of the deceased officer was discovered on a road in Basti Bawa Khel, his place of duty, with alarming signs of injury and trauma.
Reports reveal the distressing condition of Dalbir Singh Deol’s body, with one of his legs found crushed, amplifying the brutality of the incident. His body was recovered a mere eight kilometers from his native village, deepening the shock and sorrow among locals and law enforcement.
Balwinder Singh Randhawa, A-DCP-1 of Jalandhar, disclosed ongoing efforts to examine nearby CCTV footage, expressing hope for insights into the circumstances surrounding Deol’s tragic death.
“The body bore an external injury mark on the head. We are in the process of examining the CCTV footage from nearby areas, which, we believe, would throw some light on the cause of death,” stated Balwinder Singh Randhawa.
The untimely and violent demise of Dalbir Singh Deol has not only stunned the community but also raised poignant questions about the safety and security of law enforcement officials in the line of duty.
