The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has lodged a police complaint against Odia actor Buddhaditya Mohanty for a controversial social media post concerning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The complaint was filed by state NSUI president Udit Pradhan at the Capital police station on Friday.
The issue arose from a now-deleted post by Mohanty, in which he suggested that after the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s next target should be Rahul Gandhi. Pradhan expressed outrage over the post, stating, “We cannot tolerate such a remark against our leader.”
In response to the backlash, Mohanty took to Facebook to apologize for his earlier statement. “My last post regarding Rahul Gandhiji was never to target, harm, or demean him in any way, nor did I intend to write anything against him. Unintentionally, if I affected anyone’s sentiments, my intention was not this. I offer my sincere apologies,” he wrote.
The police confirmed receipt of the complaint and have initiated an inquiry into the matter. This incident comes in the wake of heightened tensions following the assassination of Siddique, a Congress-turned-NCP leader, who was shot dead in Mumbai on October 12.
As the investigation unfolds, the incident raises important questions about the responsibilities of public figures on social media and the impact of their words in a politically charged environment.
