In a tragic turn of events, a police constable lost his life during a raid on a history-sheeter criminal in a Kannauj village, where the police team encountered heavy gunfire.
The incident unfolded when law enforcement officials attempted to execute a non-bailable warrant (NBW) on Ashok alias Munna Yadav, a notorious criminal with a history of multiple cases against him. The team faced immediate hostility upon reaching Yadav’s residence, where he and his family members engaged in gunfire with the police.
Constable Sachin Rathi sustained critical bullet injuries during the exchange of fire, succumbing to his wounds while undergoing treatment at a Kanpur hospital the following morning. Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Kumar Anand confirmed the constable’s tragic demise, shedding light on the intense shootout that also resulted in injuries to Yadav and his son.
The confrontation transpired as Yadav and his family unleashed a barrage of gunfire, resulting in a fatal injury to Constable Rathi. The criminal and his son were eventually apprehended by the authorities after sustaining injuries themselves.
During the operation, the police recovered a cache of weapons from Yadav’s residence, including a double-barrel gun, two homemade pistols, and several crude bombs. Yadav’s wife, Shyama, was also taken into custody for her alleged involvement in providing arms and ammunition to her husband and son.
Yadav, bearing an extensive criminal record with about 20 cases against him listed in the Chibramau history sheet 40A, had been under the police radar due to the pending NBW. Acting on information regarding Yadav’s location, the Chibramau and Bishungarh police ventured to arrest him, triggering the fatal confrontation.
SP Anand highlighted Yadav’s use of CCTV surveillance within his residence to monitor the police team’s movements, showcasing a calculated attempt to thwart their efforts.
Despite attempts to flee, Yadav and his son were cornered by the authorities, sustaining injuries in their legs during the shootout. Constable Rathi, a member of the 2019 batch, was initially taken to a local hospital before being referred to Kanpur, where he tragically passed away.
The incident stands as a grim reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face in executing their duties, underlining the dangers encountered while confronting individuals involved in serious criminal activities.
