Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in the United States on Wednesday evening (local time) following his visit to France. He arrived at the invitation of US President Donald Trump and was received at Joint Base Andrews by India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, along with other senior officials.
This marks PM Modi’s first visit to the US since Donald Trump assumed office for his second term.
Warm Welcome at Blair House
After his arrival, PM Modi proceeded to Blair House, where members of the Indian diaspora gathered to welcome him. Enthusiastic supporters chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi Modi” as they greeted the Prime Minister. Acknowledging their warm reception, PM Modi expressed his gratitude.
In a symbolic gesture, the US flag at Blair House was replaced with the Indian flag before PM Modi’s arrival. The Prime Minister is scheduled to stay at Blair House during his two-day visit from February 12-13.
Strengthening India-US Ties
Since November 2024, PM Modi and President Trump have spoken twice over the phone, signaling continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar had earlier represented India at Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
During his US visit, EAM Jaishankar met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and participated in the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ meeting in January 2025.
