G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording a chilling 8.4 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Kirei in Sundargarh at 9.2 degrees Celsius and Keonjhar at 9.6 degrees Celsius, according to officials.
The onset of the cold wave gripped various regions, with even the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experiencing a drop in temperatures, registering a minimum of 15 degrees Celsius, one notch below the normal mark.
Low visibility attributed to fog blanketed different parts of the state, as reported by the weather office. Predictions indicate a consistent minimum temperature over the next four days, with no significant changes anticipated.
The relentless cold wave has prompted concerns across Odisha, signaling a departure from the usual weather patterns. Residents are bracing themselves for sustained chilly conditions, especially in areas where temperatures have taken a steep plunge below the 10-degree mark.
The state’s varied topography and diverse climatic conditions have resulted in these notable temperature variations, with some areas experiencing notably colder weather than others. Authorities are advising precautionary measures to ensure public safety and well-being amidst the prevailing cold spell.
As the cold wave continues its grip, residents are advised to take necessary precautions, especially during the early morning and late evening hours, to cope with the dropping temperatures and low visibility caused by foggy conditions.
