In a significant move, the Odisha government has suspended senior IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for alleged grave misconduct. The decision follows accusations that Uttamrao forcibly entered the home of a married woman police inspector and behaved inappropriately.
Uttamrao, who was serving as the DIG of Fire Services and Home Guards, faces serious allegations of misbehavior that occurred on July 27. According to the state’s home department, a confidential report was submitted by the DGP of Odisha detailing the incident.
The official suspension order cites Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, as the basis for the action. The order states that the officer is being suspended with immediate effect due to his alleged abuse of power and misconduct.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, upon returning from a visit to New Delhi, acted promptly on the issue. Majhi directed the relevant authorities to suspend Uttamrao and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken. The Chief Minister’s Office issued a statement highlighting the severity of the complaint, which accuses Uttamrao of undermining the dignity of his position.
During the suspension period, Uttamrao will be stationed at the state police headquarters in Cuttack. He is prohibited from leaving the headquarters without prior permission from the DGP. He will receive a subsistence allowance, contingent upon him certifying that he is not engaged in any other work or business during his suspension.
