Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Monday laid the foundation stones for a series of national highway projects worth approximately ₹3,900 crore in Telangana’s Komaram Bheem district, reinforcing the Centre’s focus on infrastructure-led growth.
Speaking at a public meeting, Gadkari said that the central government considers infrastructure a critical pillar for national progress, alongside agriculture, employment, and transport. “Infrastructure development is a hallmark of developed countries,” he said, adding that the projects are aimed at boosting inter-state connectivity and regional development.
The new projects include bridges and tunnels in difficult terrains, as well as a greenfield road between Suryapet and Devarapalli. He also announced progress on the Vijayawada-Nagpur corridor and the expedited expansion of the Jagityala-Karimnagar highway. Spiritual tourism is also on the agenda, with better road connectivity being planned to sites like Bhadradri, Basara, and Medaram.
Gadkari highlighted the role of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in enhancing rural connectivity and stimulating economic growth by reducing travel time in remote areas.
Union Coal Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy, who also attended the event, praised the Modi government’s efforts in developing national highways across the country. He noted that Telangana now boasts national highway connectivity in all 32 districts, with over 5,000 km of roads built under Gadkari’s leadership. He also mentioned infrastructure gains in railway connectivity and energy, including the Kazipet railway coach factory and the Ramagundam power and fertiliser projects.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay, lauded the transformative impact of these developments on backward regions like Adilabad. He credited the Centre’s welfare schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat and free food grain distribution, for uplifting the lives of marginalized communities.
The event also saw the participation of Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, MPs, MLAs, and other local leaders.
Later in the evening, Gadkari inaugurated flyovers on the Hyderabad-Mumbai and Hyderabad-Bhupalpatnam national highways, further easing traffic and improving urban connectivity in Telangana.
