The management of a prominent school in Mumbai has reportedly asked its principal to resign following controversy over her social media activity related to the Palestinian cause and the Hamas-Israel conflict, according to recent reports.
Parveen Shaikh, the principal of Somaiya School in Vidyavihar, allegedly faced pressure to resign after her comments and likes on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) were deemed pro-Palestine and sympathetic towards Hamas. The issue gained attention after a web portal highlighted her online activity.
Shaikh’s aide revealed that on April 26, she was called for a meeting with the school management where she was asked to resign due to her social media engagement. Despite the pressure, Shaikh declined to step down. The management reportedly continued to press her to resign over the following days.
Shaikh, who has been associated with the school for 12 years and served as principal for seven years, has a record of exemplary work. The school under her leadership has received awards for academic excellence. However, the controversy surrounding her social media activity has led to tensions between Shaikh and the school management.
When contacted for comment, Shaikh chose not to address the issue directly.
A spokesperson for the school management stated that the matter is under investigation, and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
