Union aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the recent 20-hour delay of a San Francisco-bound Air India flight. Speaking exclusively to NDTV, he emphasized the need for airport operators and airlines to prioritize customer satisfaction, stating that prolonged waits for passengers, whether in planes or terminals, are unacceptable.

Scindia reiterated a message he conveyed in December 2022, stressing that customers must be kept informed about developments and given the option to proceed with their flights or make alternative arrangements, especially when airlines encounter operational challenges.

The delayed Air India flight witnessed passengers enduring discomfort, including a lack of air-conditioning despite soaring temperatures due to an ongoing heatwave in the national capital. Reports showed passengers lying along aerobridge corridors and some even fainting inside the aircraft.

In response to the situation, the airline has offered affected passengers a refund. The ministry has issued a showcause notice to Air India regarding the incident.
