Massive Fire at Varanasi Railway Station Damages 200 Vehicles, No Injuries Reported

A massive fire broke out in the vehicle parking area of the Varanasi Cantt Railway Station early on Saturday, damaging at least 200 vehicles, mostly two-wheelers. The blaze, which reportedly started due to a short circuit, engulfed the parking lot, causing massive damage to the vehicles, including bicycles and motorcycles.

Visuals from the scene showed a large blaze consuming the vehicles as thick black smoke billowed into the sky. Fire brigade teams, along with police and railway protection personnel, worked tirelessly to control the fire. Around 12 fire engines were dispatched to the location to help contain the blaze, while local police, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers assisted in the operation.

Despite the extent of the damage, no injuries have been reported. According to an initial investigation, the fire started due to a short circuit in the parking area, though authorities are continuing their inquiries to confirm the exact cause. Many of the affected vehicles were owned by railway employees, some of whom had parked their bikes in the area hours before the fire broke out.

One railway employee recalled that a short circuit had occurred around 11 pm, but it was fixed. A few hours later, passengers reported a huge fire, prompting the employee to move their bike, but by then, the fire had already spread across the entire lot.

“We are conducting further investigations to determine the full extent of the damage and the exact cause of the fire,” said Kunwar Bahadur Singh, Circle Officer of GRP.

Authorities have reassured the public that no casualties were reported, and efforts are underway to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident has raised concerns about fire safety measures at the busy railway station, and it remains under investigation.
