Tragedy Strikes Pune's Tamhini Ghat as Man Swept Away by Waterfall Currents

Just a day after a harrowing incident in Lonavala, Maharashtra, where a family of five was swept away by a swollen waterfall, another tragic incident unfolded in Pune’s Tamhini Ghat. A man, identified as a trek leader, lost his life after being swept away by strong currents while enjoying a day out with friends and family.

The unfortunate incident occurred when the man decided to dive into the waterfall at the popular picnic spot. Confident in his swimming abilities, he attempted to swim back against the powerful currents but was unable to regain control. His 10-year-old daughter, recording the event, captured the heartbreaking moments as her father struggled against the forceful waters before being swept downstream.

Rescue efforts were promptly initiated, and the man’s body was later recovered from the turbulent waters of the Tamhini Ghat area. This incident closely follows the tragedy in Lonavala, where seven members of a family faced a similar fate after being carried away by the raging waterfall currents, with only two managing to swim to safety.

Authorities have issued warnings urging caution during monsoon season visits to waterfalls, emphasizing the unpredictable and often dangerous nature of swift currents. Picnickers and tourists are advised to prioritize safety protocols, avoid venturing into deep or fast-flowing waters, and heed local advisories to prevent such tragic occurrences.

The recent incidents serve as stark reminders of the risks associated with water activities during the monsoon season, particularly in areas prone to sudden surges in water levels. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, focusing on safety measures and awareness campaigns to prevent future tragedies.
