In a recent development, the Madras High Court has declined actor Mansoor Ali Khan’s request to file a defamation suit against actors Trisha, Chiranjeevi, and Kushboo Sundar. Additionally, the court imposed a ₹1 lakh fine on Khan, directing him to deposit the amount with the Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai.
This decision by the court came shortly after Khan expressed intentions to file a defamation case against the mentioned actors. However, the court dismissed his plea, citing the suit as a potential publicity stunt. Notably, the court remarked that the responses from Trisha and others regarding Khan’s statement seemed typical of any ordinary individual.
During a prior hearing on December 11, Justice Kumar had indicated that Trisha appeared to be the aggrieved party based on prima facie evidence. The court suggested that she should have been the one approaching the legal system regarding the matter.
Khan’s desire to file the case stemmed from his allegation that Trisha, Chiranjeevi, and Kushboo had misconstrued a joke he made, resulting in defamatory comments against him on various social media platforms.
The controversy ensued after Khan made misogynistic remarks about Trisha during a press meet for his film promotion. Subsequently, Trisha, Chiranjeevi, Khushbu, and the creators of the film Leo criticized Khan publicly for his comments.
Trisha expressed her strong disapproval of Khan’s comments on social media, condemning them as sexist, disrespectful, and repulsive. Khan had initially apologized to Trisha, which led to her response emphasizing forgiveness.
The National Commission for Women took notice of Khan’s statement, prompting the Chennai police to register an FIR against him under sections 354 A (sexual harassment) and 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
The recent decision by the Madras High Court represents a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between Khan and the actors. The court’s refusal to grant permission for the defamation suit alongside the imposed fine on Khan marks a pivotal point in this controversy, further shaping the narrative surrounding the issue.
